Puppies – What to expect

Author: Luke Downing  //  Category: Puppies

If you’ve been out shopping for puppies and recently brought one home to your house, you’ll need to know a few things about them.  Regardless of the different breeds of dogs out there, there are still some fundamental philosophies to follow…

Puppies will tend to be noisy; if not at first, they will as soon as they find their voice.  This is normal and all they are usually doing is expressing themselves and using their voice; there is no cause for alarm.

They is also something very important to remember about puppies, and it’s sometimes a tough lesson to learn if you haven’t been warned first.  Puppies have incredibly sharp little teeth and claws.  This is because they’ve not long been born, and like small children the teeth in their mouth are often just “puppy” teeth; in most cases they may fall out.  Don’t get your hands in their mouths and don’t allow them to scratch your arms and legs to pieces.  DO NOT hit your puppy to train them not to do this.  This is the most diabolical and ridiculous way to train a puppy to do what you want, and not only that, you could seriously harm them and their development.

Take advice on your puppy’s diet.  Your new puppy will not just eat ordinary dog food, and you shouldn’t begin to feed it from your plate either; not only will the food be too rich, but you will start bad habits that will be hard to break later on.  You should ideally be feeding a puppy some food especially designed for puppies.  Remember that they are like babies and they need to develop their internal organs as well as their appearance on the outside.
