Now i mentioned about the other destructive things a puppy might do last week, but i never actually named them. I was primarily focused on promoting tolerance with your puppy because if you were reading that post because you were at your wits end with your puppy then you seriously needed to calm down…
Now you understand that your puppy is not trying to wreck your life, we can begin. You’ve probably noticed that your puppy has destroyed a pair of shoes or perhaps ruined its bed. This is normal and quite healthy to be honest. I would be more concerned about a puppy that didn’t do this sort of thing. What you need to do is take away the things you don’t want the puppy to destroy. This way the puppy will begin to understand what it should and shouldn’t do. This is very important if you actually see the puppy start to destroy something infront of you. This is where you don’t need to get angry. This is where you take away the thing you don’t want it to destroy and introduce something that is ok to destroy (or at least attempt to). This is when you need to bring in a dog toy that you are allowing the puppy to play with; because that is all the puppy is doing essentially, it’s playing.
Use this time also to do some puppy training and to play with your puppy if you can. Finding time to do these things will help build up trust between you and you will be able to channel its energy in a more positve way. If you keep this up then the puppy will seek you out when it wants to play rather than destroy things that are nearby.
