Although it might not feel like it in some areas of the UK, it is still quite hot outside on some days, which means that the summer is still here folks! Good news isn’t it? However the weather is still too hot for your dogs and especially your puppies…
On these hot days you really should remember that a dog or puppy is as susceptible to things like sunstroke just as much as you are, and when you’re out and about with your pet you should always consider this and seek shelter and shade whenever possible. Your dog or puppy can’t tell you that they’re hot, and they can’t tell you that they have a headache. Just don’ t leave them out too long in the sun.
Keep them well clipped in the summer to prevent them overheating. They will grow back their winter coat quite fast as the weather gets colder so you’ll have a clear indication of when to stop trimming them.
Water is vital to your puppies good health, and in this heat you should always have a bowl full in the house or garden. It’s also not a bad idea to take a large bottle out with you in the car when you take your puppy or dog out with you for the day; don’t forget to take a bowl because your dog can’t drink from a bottle!
Talking about cars leads onto another very pressing thing when it comes to the heat. You MUST always leave a window open in your car to allow your dog to breathe. They breathe a lot and you could quite easily kill a dog or puppy by not providing enough fresh air for them. Don’t leave them in there too long either!
