Alright you have your family with two children and maybe a cat and a goldfish, but you might just feel like there’s something missing. Is there? Well maybe it’s that good old faithful family dog that you see in all the greatest kid’s movies these days…
You see the thing is that this is the problem, we are left with an idealised vision of what owning a dog is all about, and our kids haven’t the faintest idea what it’s really like; hell, some of us don’t know what owning a puppy is like, and we have no intention of learning. It’s too easy for people to just get a puppy or a dog and treat it just like another member of the family. You expect it to be quiet when you tell it, go to the toilet in the right place, not be too smelly and not get hair all over the place. These are the things that dogs and puppies do, they are a complete different species and before you even consider the Lassie movies you watched as a child you must first consider whether or not you are prepared to put up with all the little problems a dog or a puppy will present you.
If you are dubious about any of the things i’ve mentioned, including a puppy chewing hell out of all your furniture, and the hours of training you’ll have to put in just to get the dog to do the simplest of things you tell it, then leave them alone and don’t get one. But if you really must catch my next post and we’ll see what you should do.
