Know your breed

It is essential for you to know about the breed of puppy you intend to buy if you are indeed going to go ahead and do it.  Being unprepared for a new family member is one of the worst things you could possibly do and you could put yourself, your family and the dog at a great risk…

I have heard many lovely stories about people who have bought puppies that have grown with the family and taken a place like a child etc etc, but more often than not i’ve heard stories that have been quite sad and often resulted in an injury or the moving of a pet into a rescue home.

I maintain that there are no bad dogs, only bad people, and this goes for how you raise your puppy.  If you hit your puppy and raise it to be fearful and hateful then you are undoubtedly going to have a bad dog.  What can also happen is that people don’t realise how the breed of dog will need to be treated.  For example, if you have a German Shepard, this puppy will need to be trained to live outside for practical reasons and to get it’s own space and know it’s place in the pack.  You will also need to know that this dog needs lots of exercise and has to be kept on a strict diet because they are very prone to putting on dangerous amounts of weight if they are not properly exercised.

The message from this blog post is basically for you to research your chosen puppy before you go on out and just buy one!
