The poodle is that dog that is shaved in the very bizzare way in order to make it look pretty (although heaven knows why). Because of its “toy” variety status it’s often seen as not too bright, but the poodle is actually the second most intelligent dog after the Border Collie…
The poodle is a very obedient dog, and if you wanted to get a dog that would do as you asked and understand basic training methods quickly and easily then this breed would certainly be for you. It’s also widely known and bred for its water ability. The poodle is a keen swimmer and hunting dog which makes it an ideal hunters dog; the hunter probably doesn’t use this variety any longer simply because of the stigma attached to the breed as a toy these days.
There are two main varieties including some popular cross breeds. There is the standard poodle which is a regular to large sized dog, with the characteristic wooly, sheep like coat, and then there is the toy poodle variety (the minature poodle), which is the type that is shaved in the silly way and paraded around by the stereotyped rich women of leisure. A popular crossbreed is the Spoodle, or sometimes know as the Cockapoo; this is a cross between the poodle and a cocker spaniel.
The poodle remains a very popular choice for individual dog owners and couples, and this is probably the best environment for them.
