The German Shepard – taking care part two

This is a continuation of an earlier blog on taking care of German Shepard dogs, and it will be invaluable if you are considering buying one, raising a pup, or rescuing one from a home…

I’ve discussed how you need to give a German Shepard space and how you need to consider where it has come from.  These go without saying, it is incredibly important to consider your safety, the safety of your family and also that of the animal.  However there are lots of other things you need to do.

There is training for example.  A German Shepard will need lots of training and attention, and if you can’t commit to spending much time with it then it’s pointless you getting one in the first place.  I have seen so many families ruined because of an ill trained, large dog.  You can get away with it a litte when your pet is small.  If you have a Chihuahua then you can soon get out the way if it decides to jump up at the wrong time, and even if it gets you there is no damage.  If a German Shepard does this and you’re not aware of it the results can be devastating!

There is a simple truth here, and that is if you can’t train the dog, don’t get it!  A dog is very rarely at fault in these situations, and it is almost always the owner that is to blame when something goes wrong.  A German Shepard will be very easy to train and you will get lots of rewards from seeing your hard work turn into a well behaved dog.  Just take your time.
